Founded in 1957, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), best known for the internationally recognized Emmy Award, is a non-profit, professional organization dedicated to improving the quality of television at all levels. NATAS strives to raise industry standards, encourages those new to the profession, and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas on industry problems and concerns.
The Nashville/Midsouth Region, founded in 1984, encompasses the States of North Carolina (except Asheville) and Tennessee, and the television market of Huntsville, Alabama. In addition to granting the Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards, the chapter awards scholarships, honors quarter-century industry veterans at the Silver Circle Celebration, conducts National Student Television Awards of Excellence, has a free, nationwide Job Bank, provides member discounts and insurance, and participates in judging Emmy entries at the regional and national levels.

EMMY AWARDS INFORMATION,
REGIONAL AWARDS
Material broadcast in the Midsouth Region, which encompasses the States of North Carolina (except Asheville) and Tennessee, plus Huntsville, Alabama, from July 1 to June 30 is eligible for entry. Only programming seen in under 50% of the country can be considered. Official entry forms are available in June of each year, with entries on VHS tapes due at the end of August.

Nominations are announced on the Friday before Thanksgiving. Emmy Awards are granted at a banquet and live telecast in Nashville late January. Entry forms are available from the chapter office, or may be downloaded. Television professionals and broadcasting students are invited to volunteer to be on the telecast staff.
The Governors’ Award, the most prestigious Regional Emmy, is voted by the Board of Governors annually to honor an outstanding industry leader or company whose contributions are so great that they are beyond the scope of the Emmy Awards categories. The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter has honored the following:

EMMY USAGE-TRADEMARK POLICY,
Policy Regarding the Use of: Trademarks, EMMY® statue(ette), and Clips from EMMY® Award Shows
I. TRADEMARK USE GUIDELINES
A. Consistent and Proper Use
The trademarks of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, also known as National Television Academy (“NATAS/NTA”) are valuable assets. Proper and consistent use of such trademarks is vital so that those marks maintain their value and NATAS/NTA may protect its legal rights in ownership of those marks.
Therefore, please familiarize yourself with, and abide by, the following use guidelines. Always follow these rules when using the National Television Academy trademarks:
1. Use trademarks as adjectives. Trademarks are adjectives, not nouns or verbs, and should always be followed by a noun.
Correct: Emmy® award
Emmy® award ceremony
Incorrect: The Emmy’s.
2. Never use trademarks in plural or possessive form.
Correct: Two Emmy® statuettes.
Incorrect: Two Emmy’s
3. Set trademarks apart from other words or the nouns they modify. Methods of distinguishing a mark include printing it in capitals, italicized text, using bold faced text, title case (providing that the surrounding text is not also in title case) and/or putting the mark in “quotation marks.”

4. Never use any other trademark in conjunction with a National Television Academy trademark without express authorization from the National Television Academy.
5. Use the appropriate trademark symbol in the proper place and give proper attribution. While it is not always practical or feasible to use the appropriate trademark notice with every use of a word mark, try to use the appropriate symbol whenever the mark is displayed prominently and in the first occurrence of the mark in text on each page, including web pages. If the trademark consists of a logo or a design, the appropriate trademark notice should appear with every use of the logo or design.

C. Disclaimer
Acknowledge National Television Academy’s ownership of its trademarks. The following language should be included on all websites and materials that display National Television Academy trademarks:
“Use of the trademarks and service marks of the National Television Academy (“NATAS/NTA”), including the mark EMMY®, requires the prior express written permission of the National Television
Academy.”
D. Fair Use of Emmy Trademark
1. Note that while permission is required to use the National Television Academy trademarks in connection with products and services, others are allowed to make “fair use” of the mark to identify the
products and services of the National Television Academy. For example, a winning television show, may fairly advertise that it has won an EMMY® award.
E. Alteration
1. Never alter National Television Academy trademarks, including designs, colors, etc. without express written authorization from the National Television Academy.
F. Inappropriate Use
1. Never use National Television Academy trademarks in jokes, puns or in a derogatory fashion.
2. Notify the National Television Academy of any improper use of any of its trademarks. Report as much detail as possible about the misuse, including the name of the party, contact information, and copies or photographs of the potential misuse.
G. Subject to Change
1. Always follow all applicable marketing and legal guidelines. From time to time, the National Television Academy may modify these written guidelines making it imperative to review all updates. At all times, you are subject to the prevailing guidelines currently in effect.
II. PROTECTION OF THE EMMY® STATUE(ETTE)
A. The Emmy® statue(ette) is the property of and all rights are reserved by the National Television Academy;
B. The Emmy® statue(ette) may not be reproduced or used in any commercial manner unless permitted by the National Television Academy, it being understood that possession of the same is solely for the benefit of the recipient and the recipient’s heirs or successors in interest.
C. If a recipient or the recipient’s heir or successor in interest proposes to sell or otherwise dispose of the Emmy® statue(ette), such persons shall be obligated to return the statue(ette) to the National Television Academy which will retain the same in storage in memory of the recipient.
III. USE OF EXCERPTS FROM EMMY® AWARDS SHOW
A. Clips from EMMY® Awards Shows may be used in news broadcasts to report on said awards shows. The policies governing such uses are as follows:
1. The clips are to be used only in the segment of the broadcaster’s news program that covers the EMMY® Awards ceremony.
2. Aggregate length of all clips in a news program is not to exceed one (1) minute.
3. Clips are not to be aired as a part of a news program in any time zone until completion of the airing of the EMMY® Awards shows in that time zone.
4. The broadcaster must assume all responsibility for obtaining union and/or music clearances, and must secure the consent of the network which broadcasts the show. The broadcaster must indemnify NATAS/NTA and ATAS against any claims. See Exhibit A (attached).
B. Other Use of Excerpts:
1. Clips from EMMY® Awards shows may be used in news stories (in addition to those covered under section A above) which relate to a recipient of an award upon his or her death.
1. Clips from EMMY® Awards shows may be used in retrospectives and similar shows dealing with the careers of recipients.
3. Clips from EMMY® Awards shows may be used in other awards shows.
4. Clips may not be used in entertainment-type shows.
C. Programs other than current news shows in which clips are used may be broadcast and rebroadcast without limitation. NATAS/NTA and ATAS would also agree that, in most cases, it is proper to allow usage of those clips in after-market applications, e.g., a retrospective of an artist which is first broadcast on television then released on home video.
D. Permission for use of clips (in shows other than news) must be obtained in each instance from NATAS/NTA and ATAS. The party seeking permission is responsible for securing any necessary union or music clearances. A copy of the standard form used in connection with EMMY® Awards Shows for this purpose is attached as Exhibit B. Please note that in the form, in some cases where NATAS/NTA or ATAS is dealing with a recognized company, there is an alternate paragraph that contains an indemnity against union and music claims, as opposed to a provision requiring the proposed user to obtain the clearances.
E. Use of Excerpts in Commercials:
1. It is felt that this type of use would dilute the value of the EMMY®. Accordingly, unless the Board of Trustees were to grant a waiver in a specific instance, excerpts from EMMY® Awards Shows may not be used in commercials.
IV. USE OF THE EMMY® NAME AND EMMY® STATUE(ETTE) IN ADVERTISING AND PUBLICITY
A. EMMY® Winners:
1. EMMY® Winners may at any time refer in advertising and publicity to the fact that they have won an EMMY® and may, for one year after the Award is won, use a replica of the statue(ette) in such advertising.
2. NATAS/NTA and ATAS are currently receiving requests for use of the statue(ette) on video cassettes of EMMY®-winning Shows. It is the policy of NATAS/NTA and ATAS that the statue(ette) may not be used on video cassette/disc copies of EMMY®-winning Shows. However, reference may be made in the printed material on the cover to the effect that the show is an EMMY® winner.
B. Sponsors of EMMY® shows:
1. In the past, we have allowed sponsors of EMMY® Awards Shows to use a copy of the EMMY® Statuette and the EMMY® name in both print and point-of-sale advertising, provided that (i) the advertising occurred at or about the time of broadcast of the Show, and (ii) the advertising made specific reference to their sponsorship of the Show.
C. Advertiser’s Use of Clips from Shows in Advertising:
1. Unless the Board of Trustees were to grant a waiver, clips from an EMMY® show (i.e., a clip showing someone winning an EMMY® award or a clip of someone wearing the advertiser’s product at the Show) may not be used in advertising.
D. Network / Station Uses:
1. Networks and local television stations may use the EMMY® name and EMMY® statue(ette) with appropriate copyright and trademark notices in connection with promotional announcements for programs
which, in fact, have won the EMMY® award, as long as it is done within one (1) year after the Award has been won and not thereafter.
2. Networks and local stations may announce the fact that they have won national EMMY® Awards or regional EMMY® Awards, as the case may be, by showing replicas of the statue(ette) and may refer to the name of NATAS/NTA or ATAS. Appropriate copyright and trademark notices should be affixed to any replicas of the statue(ette) as outlined above.
V. OTHER USES OF THE EMMY® NAME OR THE EMMY® STATUE(ETTE)
A. In Television Programs or Movies:
1. The EMMY® statue(ette) may be used as a prop in a program or movie as long as the use is not in any way derogatory to the statue(ette) and that the statue(ette) is an incidental part of the same.
B. In Published Works, etc.:
1. The EMMY® name and/or statue(ette) may be used in connection with printed works provided that the work is of an educational or informational nature, and the reference to the EMMY® name or statuette is
non-derogatory and is reasonably related to the purpose of the published work.
2. EMMY® winners are permitted to use pictures of themselves receiving the EMMY® award in personal resumes and self-promotion.
3. Pictures of EMMY® winners receiving their statue(ette)s may also be used in printed materials featuring biographical material about such winner, provided that the use is reasonably related to the biographical material, e.g., use of a picture of an EMMY® winner in a souvenir program of a stage play in which the EMMY® winner appears, use in biographical articles about the winner, etc.
4. We have received requests from corporate EMMY® winners to use replicas of the EMMY® on stationery and the like. Although EMMY® winners may make textual reference to the fact that they have won an EMMY® award, they may not use replicas of the EMMY® statue(ette) for this purpose.
C. Merchandising:
1. The EMMY® name and EMMY® statue(ette) may not be used in connection with merchandising items except with prior approval of the Board of Trustees. If any proposed merchandising uses are to be approved, that proposal must be coordinated with NATAS/NTA and ATAS.

You agree that the aggregate length of all Clips used will not exceed one minute.
You agree that the Clips will not be aired as part of your program in any time zone, until completion of the airing of the Show in that time zone.
You acknowledge that as between Network and you, Network and/or the National Television Academy (NATAS/NTA) is the sole owner of all copyrights and exclusive rights in and to the Clips, and you agree to give Network and NATAS/NTA a credit for its grant of permission to use the Clips.
You will obtain all required authorization, clearances, consents, and releases necessary for your use of the Clips, including without limitation, consents from NATAS/NTA, from all performers and persons who rendered services in connection with the Clips, from all persons who appear recognizably in the Clips, as well as consents from all unions and guilds to the extent any of their respective members performed in or in connection with the Clips, including without limitation, AMF, AFTRA, SAG, DAGA and WGA. If music is in the Clips, you will also obtain music synchronization licenses from the owners of the music.
You agree to defend, indemnity and hold harmless NATAS/NTA, Network, its parent, subsidiary and affiliated companies, its owned and affiliated stations, and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives, employees, successors and assigns, from and against any and all losses, actions, claims, demands, liabilities, damages or costs (including reasonable attorney’s fees) of any kind or nature whatsoever which may arise out of or result from your use of the Clips or your breach of this agreement.
You agree that NATAS/NTA and the Network has made no warranty or representation whatsoever, express or implied, with respect to the Clips or your use of them.

The Silver Circle is open to all persons who began their television careers at least 25 years ago, either in a performing, creative, technical, or administrative role within the industry, or in a peripheral area directly related to television, such as commercial production, journalism, or education, etc. Candidates must also have made a significant contribution to Midsouth television for a least part of their 25-year career. Silver Circle members are inducted at the Emmy Awards.

ABC, CBS WALK AWAY WITH DAYTIME EMMYS

ABC took home the most Daytime Emmy Awards this year with 14 total, as "General Hospital" and "One Life to Live" bringing home honors in entertainment categories. CBS won the most entertainment Emmys tonight with five. ABC pulled in four entertainment awards tonight at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The network had received 10 others at a June 13 event recognizing creative arts categories. The night also debuted several new categories, as Twentieth Television's “Cristina’s Court” won the first legal/courtroom award and “The Tyra Banks Show” from Warner Bros. walked away with the talk show-informative award. PUBLIC BROADCASTING TOPS NEWS AND DOCU EMMY NOMINEES

Public broadcasting programming led the list of nominees for the 29th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Public broadcasting shows received 38 nominations, followed by ABC and CBS with 17 nominations each. NBC received 14 nominations. National Geographic was the most-nominated cable channel with 12, followed by HBO/Cinemax with 10. Regional nominees include KCNC-TV in Denver, WBBM-TV in Chicago, WBZ-TV in Boston, WGCL-TV in Atlanta, WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., and WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. Awards will be presented in 33 categories, including breaking news, investigative reporting, interview and documentary, on Sept. 22 at a ceremony held at Frederick P. Rose Hall in the Time Warner Center in New York City.

YOUTUBE TEAMS WITH INDIE FILMMAKERS
Internet giant opens virtual screening room

Google Inc.'s YouTube is setting up a virtual screening room to bring the work of independent filmmakers to a global audience. Struggling filmmakers already use YouTube to kick-start viral marketing campaigns. The new feature, which debuts Wednesday, gives them an easy-to-find home - and makes them partners in drawing new ad revenue. "Hopefully as they see thousands of people watching their films, it's going to be a very eye-opening experience," said Sara Pollack, YouTube's film and animation manager. The screening room will highlight four new films a week, picked by a YouTube editorial panel. Submissions are welcomed. The panel also will scour film festivals and work with partners such as the Sundance Channel to identify prospects. Among the first eight titles to be showcased are "Love and War," a stop-motion puppet movie by a Swedish director; the Oscar-nominated short "I Met The Walrus," about an interview with John Lennon; and "Are You the Favorite Person of Anybody?" by performance artist Miranda July. Filmmakers can choose to have a "Buy Now" button attached to their work for sales of DVDs or digital copies. They will also collect a majority share of ad revenue generated from views of their work. YouTube said people whose clips regularly attract a million viewers can make several thousand dollars a month. The bigger prize can be exposure. When YouTube featured the nine-minute short "Spider" by Nash Edgerton in February, it became the fifth-best selling short on iTunes, Pollack said. The creators of the full-length feature "Four Eyed Monsters," Susan Buice and Arin Crumley, got their break when more than a million YouTube views helped land them a TV and DVD distribution deal, she said. "They ended up doing really, really well, ironically by putting their film online for free," Pollack said.
ABC NEWS LEADS IN MURROW AWARD WINS

ABC News earned six Edward R. Murrow Awards to top the list of winners that will be honored by the Radio-Television News Directors Association at its annual dinner Oct. 13 in New York City. ABC will pick up a Murrow for overall excellence, one for spot news coverage of the Minneapolis bridge collapse and one for “To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports,” which recently received a Peabody Award. CBS News won four Murrows, including one for the Aug. 9, 2007, edition of “CBS Evening News With Katie Couric” for best newscast, and one for “Boots on the Ground,” a four-part series about U.S. soldiers in Iraq by Lara Logan, who was recently promoted to chief foreign affairs correspondent. Also honored: “The Way Home,” a “CBS Sunday Morning” report by correspondent Kimberly Dozier. She, like Mr. Woodruff, recovered from catastrophic injuries received while reporting in Iraq and turned her experience into a broader look at the experiences of wounded U.S. troops. Ms. Dozier’s story also received a Peabody Award recently. “American Story With Bob Dotson” on NBC’s “Today” won a Murrow Award for writing. In all, 77 awards will be dispensed Oct. 13 to representatives of 54 network and local TV and radio news organizations.

SOMEHOW, despite more distractions than ever, we’re finding even more time to plant ourselves in front of screens. he first in a series of new “three-screen” reports by the Nielsen Company shows an emerging shift toward a more video-centric use of the Internet, but not at the expense of television viewing. The report, an initial effort by Nielsen to “follow the video” as consumer viewing habits shift, is scheduled to be released Tuesday [7/9/08]. The average American spent 127 hours of time with TV in May, up from 121 hours in May 2007; and 26 hours on the Internet, up from 24 hours last year. More than 282 million people watch television in a given month and nearly 162 million use the Internet.

People Spend More Than 5 Full Days Each Month Watching TV

Video consumers are spending more time on every available platform, including TVs, computers and cell phones, according to a report on television consumption released Tuesday by The Nielsen Co. Despite other options for consuming content, Americans are spending an increased amount of time in front of televisions: an average of 127 hours, 15 minutes a month, according to the research company. This viewing is not at the expense of Internet use: that metric is up 9%, to 26 hours and 26 minutes a month. Online viewing is estimated at 2 hours and 19 minutes and Americans watch 3 hours and 15 minutes a month on their cell phones, according to the survey. “Commercial television is alive and well—growing 1% year over year—despite the rapid adoption of other platforms,” said John Burbank, chief marketing officer for The Nielsen Company. “Moreover, timeshifting represents less than 5% of total viewing.”

NEWSCHANNEL 5 WTVF NASHVILLE SOLD TO BONTEN
Landmark Communications announced that it has agreed to sell NewsChannel 5 (WTVF), located in Nashville, TN, to Bonten Media Group. NewsChannel 5, a CBS affiliate, is the leading television station in the Nashville market, and the #1 rated CBS station in the top 30 markets in the U.S. NewsChannel 5 also operates a 24 hour local-on-cable news channel and an online business in addition to the television station. Landmark Chairman and CEO Frank Batten, Jr. commented, “We are very proud of NewsChannel 5’s outstanding service to the Nashville region. We deeply appreciate the high level of professionalism, innovation and commitment to news excellence and community service that Debbie Turner, the President and General Manager of NewsChannel 5, and her team provide. Bonten Media Group, which has a strong track record in broadcasting, inherits a wonderful station and group of superb professionals, and we expect NewsChannel 5 will continue to grow and excel.” The sale, which is expected to close later this year after FCC approval, is part of a process that Landmark announced in January to explore strategic alternatives, including the sale of Landmark’s businesses. CABLE NETS, WEB PRESENCE BOLSTERED BY SCRIPPS SPLIT
Unit Freed From Company’s Troubled Stations and Newspapers

With this week’s splitting up of E.W. Scripps, HGTV, Food Network and Scripps’ other cable properties will be free of their old-media cousins. “I think this will allow our management team to be more focused on where we’re going to take the company,” said Ken Lowe, who took the old newspaper company into cable, and who will be CEO of the new company Scripps Networks Interactive. SNI comprises Scripps Networks, which will own the company’s lifestyle cable networks—HGTV, Food Network, DIY, Fine Living and Great American Country—as well as sn_digital. That division oversees those networks’ Web extensions as well as other Web sites, including shopping comparison site Shopzilla and uSwitch, which helps consumers compare prices on home services and utilities. The cable networks are seeing ratings results from an increase in spending on programming on HGTV and Food Network. With those networks as the foundation, SNI is looking to dominate the shelter and food categories on as many platforms as possible. A LOOK AT THE 'NEW SCRIPPS' AND CEO BOEHNE

Today Rich Boehne steps into the role of president and CEO of the newly formed E.W. Scripps Co., a company that has been relatively unscathed -- at least compared to its peers -- on the Street. The “new” Scripps will be operating as a newspaper and broadcast TV company with a focus on local media sans its lucrative cable and Interactive division, which is now Scripps Networks Interactive (NYSE: SNI). The feel-good vibe from investors will probably spin-out with it, as the new Scripps (NYSE: SSP) will likely get a bitter taste of how the investors have been treating newspaper companies without fast growing media properties. Just take a June 2 note from Goldman Sachs’ lead analyst Peter Appert, who pegged the new Scripps to start trading at roughly $8/share, with a market capitalization of about $1.4 billion. (On June 30, the old SSP closed at $41.90). It got the boot from the S&P500; SNI took its place. Boehne is not a stranger to road shows and investor calls. He began his media career as a part time reporter for The Cincinnati Enquirer before graduating from college, eventually landing at The Cincinnati Post where he covered Wall Street, the national economy, and other business subjects. He was plucked by Scripps headquarters to help prepare the company for its initial public offering in 1988. It went public that summer at $16. AT&T SAYS IT’LL OFFER TV PACKAGE TO NASHVILLE, SURROUNDING AREAS

AT&T plans to offer its Internet protocol-based television service in Nashville and the surrounding counties under a state application submitted Tuesday, the first day a new law governing television franchising became effective. The telecom giant also announced it plans to invest about $400 million in Tennessee. The new state law, which went into effect Tuesday, requires AT&T to apply for a state-issued franchise to start television programming and compete with the cable industry. Prior to the law becoming effective, television franchising was accessible only at the local level, such as Comcast’s agreement in Davidson County. “We look forward to bringing Tennesseans not only choice and competition but also advanced video, voice and Internet service technology,” said Gregg Morton, president of AT&T Tennessee in a statement. “It will take time to enhance our network to offer these exceptional services, but we will move as quickly as possible to compete for Tennessee customers.” AT&T’s application for a state-issued franchise has been submitted to the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, which has administrative duties over the process. As prescribed by the law, AT&T detailed the service areas it plans to cover in the application. Those geographic areas, which range across the state, include Nashville and the surrounding doughnut counties. The areas, however, can be changed. The telecom giant must offer television services to the areas described in the agreement within two years of it being inked. Within 3 ½ years, AT&T must offer services to roughly 600,000 Tennessee households, 25 percent of which must be low-income. The $400 million investment — to come over the next several years — will be in fiber network upgrades, expanded broadband access and deployment of AT&T’s U-verse television programming package. Former Channel 9 [WTVC] weatherman Neal Pascal is joining Channel 3 to handle weekend weather duties. He will be replacing weekend weatherman Brian Travers, whose contract is not being renewed. And in another development at Channel 3, the station is reducing eight production positions. WRCB TV's President and General Manager Tom Tolar said the reductions were due to automation and changes in the TV industry. He said there would be some layoffs, but some of the cuts would be handled by attrition. Of the addition of Neal Pascal, who left Channel 9 after he faced federal mortgage fraud charges, Mr. Tolar said, “We are delighted to have Neal Pascal join the Eyewitness News team. Neal has more than 25 years of experience forecasting weather here in the Tennessee Valley. WRCB is proud to be continuing the tradition of giving our viewers the best, most accurate, forecast available. He said Mr. Travers will be seeking other employment. NPT WINS TWO CINE GOLDEN EAGLE AWARDS
Two on-air broadcast promotional spots by Nashville Public Television (NPT) have won CINE Golden Eagle Awards. The two "Give the Gift of Membership" spots -- "Accordion Player" and "Out of Sync" -- were winners in the Promo Category, where they competed with entries from major broadcast and cable networks. The two spots were part of a promotional campaign titled “Give the Gift of Membership” written, produced and directed by Hugh Brian O’Neill, NPT’s Director of Brand Management & Creative Services, filmed by Jim DeMarco and edited by Ed Jones. The campaign stars Nashville musician Michael Webb, whose character’s life is given renewed meaning after receiving the gift of NPT membership. “Out of Sync,” which also stars Nashville sound engineer Danny Polan, previously won a 2008 Midsouth Regional EMMY Award. For the 21st Annual Emmy Awards, The Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission is sponsoring the third annual "Rising Star." This award honors an industry professional in the Midsouth Region who shows extraordinary promise. Entries are to be made by the head of a department in a television station or production company, for entrants whose work exhibits creativity, vision and high ethical standards. The nominees will be chosen by the board of governors of the academy from those entrants whose efforts hold promise for the industry's future. The entry deadline is October 30, and the nominations will be announced on Friday, November 17. The award is a crystal pillar to be presented at the Emmy Awards on January 27, 2007.

A graduate of the University of New Orleans, Bridget was Director of Instructional Media there, and earned a Masters in Arts Administration. She joined Nashville Public Television (then WDCN) in 1997 and was Membership Manager and Development Director. Bridget now produces and hosts live pledge breaks and Arts Break. Her documentaries include Designed for Worship, Memories of Nashville, and The Ryman. Bridget has received four Midsouth Emmy Award nominations, two National Educational Telecommunication Association Awards, and the Gracie Award. Beth Curley, Senior Vice President of NPT, said that Bridget has “tenacity, maturity, a sense of humor, excellent team leadership, and the ability to understand and work on all aspects of a production.”
2005 - NICHOLAS E. DUGGER, Creator and Engineer-In-Charge, Tennessee Digital Video
A Jackson, Tennessee, native, Nic Dugger has been working in television since the age of 12. At TRTV for 5 years, he worked his way up from cable puller to master control operator. At Middle Tennessee State University, Nic became the student television station manager in his freshman year. While still in college, Nic worked as a freelancer on live regional election returns, live Midsouth Emmy Awards telecasts, documentaries, and events, and was nominated for two NATAS Student Production Awards. Nic also took part in the international JASON Project broadcasts with Titanic discoverer Dr. Bob Ballard for several years. Next came Media Arts in Seattle, where he was part of milestone productions for the Discovery Channel and National Geographic. Nic returned to MTSU in 2001 for a teaching opportunity in the Mass Comm Department. In 2002, he joined The Holland Group to develop and manage a new media production department. Nic founded Tennessee Digital Video in October of 2004, and completed the construction of his own all-digital mobile television production truck, which provided part of facilities for the 2005 Presidential inauguration in Washington., and Governor Bredesen¹s 2005 State of the State address. TNDV appeared on the cover and in a feature article in TV Technology in April, 2005. Nic’s dreams include the development of an endowment based after school program for high school students to learn about mobile broadcasting.

REGIONAL STUDENT AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE 2006-07 PRESS RELEASE,
The Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Midsouth Regional winners of the Student Television Award for Excellence recognizing outstanding television journalism by high school students at a ceremony attended by 125 students and teachers on April 3 at the Nashville Public Library, according to Michael J. Schoenfeld, President of the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter.
Regional winners will be eligible for recognition at the national level. A blue-ribbon panel, chaired by Av Westin, Executive Director of the Foundation, will select seven national awardees. The national awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held May 1, 2007, at the Hearst Tower in New York City. Students from the Midsouth have won national awards in two of the four previous years of the competition.
A seminar, “Music Makes a Difference,” conducted by 615 Music Productions, began the event. From 615 Music, Randy Wachtler, President, Chad Shambaugh, Sound Designer, and Aaron Gant, Vice President of Production and Engineering entertained the students with clips of their extraordinary compositions and sound designs, and provided insights into the music business.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Lelan Statom from the NewsChannel 5 Network. The eight categories in the student competition were:

Now in its fifth year, the Student Television Award for Excellence is part of the National Student Television program which encourages and supports journalism skills among students. All entries were originally broadcast, cablecast, or webcast within the eligibility period from February 1, 2006 to January 31, 2007. In the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter, 63 entries were received, representing 160 individual student names.

NATIONAL STUDENT TELEVISION AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE – CALL FOR ENTRIES 2007-08
This nationwide initiative of The Foundation of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences promotes best practices to high school students. It is intended to be an incentive for the pursuit of excellence in television journalism and to focus public attention on outstanding achievements in television produced by high school students. All entries are first judged for their Regional Chapter’s Awards. Those regional winners are then judged again by a blue-ribbon panel to select a national winner in each category. The seven categories are: News, Arts & Entertainment/Cultural Affairs, Documentary, Sports, Hubbard Family Public Affairs/Community Service/Public Service, Technical Achievement, and Writing. Entries must be submitted as they were originally telecast, cablecast or webcast. Faculty involvement can be only advisory. There is no limit to the number of entries a school or after school program may submit in each category. The National Student Television Award for Excellence is presented to the sponsoring high school, after school program, or producing organization, with the individuals involved in the production of the entry receiving certificates. Entries must have been originally broadcast, cablecast or webcast within the eligibility period from February 1, 2007 to January 31, 2008. EMMY AWARDS PRESS RELEASE for ceremony January 26, 2008,
The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) presented the 22nd Annual Midsouth Emmy® Awards at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Saturday, January 26, 2008. The Midsouth Chapter encompasses the States of North Carolina and Tennessee and northern Alabama.
Chapter President Ellen Jones Pryor of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts welcomed a record crowd of 535 to the cocktail reception and gala banquet. The live telecast was hosted by Mick Mixon*, Voice of the Carolina Panthers, and Pete Weber*, Voice of the Nashville Predators.

The Rising Star Award went to Todd Jarrell*, Independent Filmmaker, well known for his documentary work on the spread of Methamphetamine in Tennessee. The award, honoring an industry professional in the Midsouth Region who shows extraordinary promise, was presented by Pete Weber and Perry Gibson of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission, sponsors of Rising Star.
Patrick “Pat” Slattery* of the Vanderbilt University News Service was inducted into the Silver Circle, honoring quarter-century contributions to television. The presentation was made by Phillip L. Bell of Earnhardt Pirkle and National Trustee of the Academy, and long-time colleague Demetria Kalodimos of WSMV.
